Aged Care Worker

Support older Australians to live with dignity, in residential care or their own homes.

What You Will Do

As an aged care worker, you will provide daily support to older Australians. That includes helping with personal care, meals, and mobility, but just as importantly, you will offer companionship and emotional support. For many clients, you become a trusted part of their life.

We train our students to work in both residential aged care facilities and home care settings. The skills are the same, but the environment is different, and we prepare you for both.

Your day-to-day will include assisting with bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting. You will help with meals and medication reminders. You will support clients with mobility, getting in and out of bed, using a wheelchair, or walking safely. And you will write progress notes to keep the care team informed.

The Demand

Aged care is one of Australia's fastest-growing sectors. According to HumanAbility's 2025 Workforce Plan, residential aged care alone is projected to employ 317,000 workers by 2034, up from 227,802 today.

The shortage is real, and it is national. Every state and territory is recruiting. If you are looking for work that is available now, and will still be available in ten years, this is it.

This is a diverse workforce. We welcome students from all backgrounds, and so do employers. What matters is your attitude, not your history.

Pay and Conditions

In 2024, the Fair Work Commission awarded aged care workers a wage increase of up to 28.5%, recognising that this work has been historically undervalued. That is a significant shift, and it is already in effect.

$1,564/week Median full-time earnings

Most roles offer flexible shifts, mornings, afternoons, nights, or a combination. Around 60% of workers are part-time, which suits people balancing study, family, or other commitments. We help our students understand what shift patterns work best for them.
